Dr." Hoyt Blackwell . conducted servr ices st the Oampton home Saturday evening before leaving for an ap pointment which kept him .from at tending and assisting in the funeral at the church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers and granddaughters were flower bearers'. The body was taken to the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. S. Comp ton, of Barnarde ville on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock where it remained until taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services. Mr. Martin, one of the most be loved and faithful ministers of Mad ison County, was bom near the Mouth of Turkey Creek' in Buncombe County on January 6, 1878, the son of William Ervin Martin, and Sarah Amanda James Martin. At the age of 23 he married Miss Mary Adeline Pilemmons. the daughter" of William Plemmons and Luctade Rogers Plenu mons. To this union were horn eleven children (seven daughters and four sons). ' Mr. Martin was converted at Old Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Buncombe County on November 42, 1887 during a revivaL Be remain ed in that Baptist . ohuroh.. for; 14 years where he served as clerk.' ,, He then moved to Madison County where he lived on Dry Brsnch, on Walnut Creek.
